Lorna works mainly in acrylic on canvas in a realism style. Focusing mainly on landscapes, her work has taken her both around NZ and internationally, in particular Alaska where she travelled widely and many works returned to Alaskan homes. She has also ventured into heritage work for farming families so that the history is never lost. Her love of nature shows in her paintings and through her work she hopes to share the peace, beauty and tranquility of the natural world with her viewers and clients. The old masters have had a great influence on her style and noted ones are George Innes and Albert Beirstadt alongside early New Zealand ones including J. C. Hoyte, Charles Blomfield, John Gully and John Gibb, along with Pietrus Van der Velden a Dutch painter who worked in the Otira area in New Zealand in the mid 1800's Lorna’s works have achieved awards both locally and internationally. Her work is held in private collections both locally and internationally.

Acrylic
500mm x 1100mm

Nowhere takes my breath away than to stand high on top of a hill and gaze out over such a coastal view. There is a feeling of forever, as though the soul can soar over those lands and drift quietly into the future. There is a feeling of freedom and peace, and it renews my soul and energy. How lucky we are to have these beautiful places in our world.

"Beyond the Sublime" near Mt Potts in the Canterbury High Country. This was one of the areas that was in the Lord of the Rings movie. In fact Mt Sunday, that rugged hill just below the mountains was the site where they built a whole city which had to be removed later.
