My life has encompassed upheaval, resilience, and the raw edges of humanity. In my work I engage directly with selected materials as a way of processing and expressing this lived experience.
Working with found, discarded materials, I raise them from their humble beginnings to be rebirthed; there is satisfaction in lifting everyday trash from bin to fine-art. This is an immersive practice, in which I connect with the painting. I construct and consider surface onto which I apply texture and colour, synthesising in this way brings an abject, bodily quality to the work.
I have curated and exhibited throughout New Zealand and in England, and taught painting classes with a focus on process, materials, and technique.
