Jayne paints contemporary realistic interpretations of New Zealand landscapes in oils, on canvas or wood. Her paintings explore and highlight the impressive structure and form of the land, as light and shadows strike across it. The beautiful and vibrant colours of rivers, lakes, ocean, and sky also feature strongly in her paintings.
She paints using her own reference photographs of South Island places she has explored and enjoyed. Slowly the paintings evolve, as she exaggerates key features using line, geometry, definition and colour contrasts. She is currently exploring the square format and a softer palette and style. Jayne is inspired by a gratefulness for the beauty of our natural world and the spiritual meaning that holds for her.
Jayne began painting in oils through an evening art class in 2000. She has continued growing and learning as an artist through seasons of having 3 children, working as a teacher and living overseas, in Japan. She has enjoyed being a part of the Otago Art Society, often exhibiting in the Otago Art Society galleries. She has also exhibited at Athol Gallery and is involved in larger Art Shows from time to time. As well as painting commissions, Jayne sells limited edition giclee reproductions of her paintings on canvas or fine art paper. You can find her range of work at the Otago Art Society Sales Gallery, at her website www.jaynetuiart.com or by arranging to visit her home studio in Waldronville, Dunedin.
